Sydney offers virtual and in-person skincare consultations!
You can schedule a consult with Sydney by visiting the consulting page to choose and pay for your consult.
In-person consults are at Southern Institute of Plastic Surgery in Dothan, Alabama.

Skincare consultations include daily skincare routines as well as recommendations for monthly and yearly treatments that are typically on the esthetics side of care. Sydney works closely with the estheticians at Spa Novus to help you reach your skincare goals.
An esthetician specializes in analyzing your skin and deciding the appropriate treatments for you. Sydney believes the best skincare is achieved when skincare plans include both the medical side and esthetics sides.

Moisturizers are so important for all skin types if you are using a medical-grade skincare routine. Treatments for acne, skin discoloration, and wrinkle prevention can all cause dryness and irritation.
Oily skin can become more oily if anti-oil products are used but the skin barrier is not properly maintained.
In my experience the best moisturizer for most people is Neutrogena Hydroboost gel-cream. It has Dimethicone as the second ingredient, which gives it a wonderful whipped texture and smooths pores. It is especially great in. the AM before tinted spf or make-up . It is advertised for extra-dry skin but works well for all skin types. Actually, some dry/normal-dry or combo skin needs an extra moisture at night.
EltaMD PM Therapy is my recommendation for the winter months or those needing extra moisture.
Moisturizers are a good place to talk about hyaluronic acid because it helps moisturize and plump the skin by attracting water. It is actually naturally occurring in our skin and joints, but decreases as we gain years of life.
The active form is listed as sodium hyaluronate on the ingredient list.
Hyaluronic acid is an important ingredient for improving appearance of aging skin.
Another reason I love the Neutrogena Hydroboost is it has hyaluronic acid in it! It is not as concentrated as other products. Like with all active ingredients, cheaper versions will have sodium hyaluronate further down on ingredient list so less concentrated. The most potent form of any ingredient is in the form of a serum.
The Skinceuticals HA Intensifier is recommended for those treating for signs of aging. I like to use it around eyes/cheekbones, forehead, mouth in AM.
It's important to note that hyaluronic acid does not lend long term effects like other ingredients mentioned. It is for hydration and short-term plumping of skin although it is subtle.
For oily skin, the Effaclar Mat Mattifying Moisturizer is a great option, especially in the AM.
My gift to you on Vitamin C Day!
Here’s the scoop:
If you’re taking the time to research and apply a Vitamin C daily PLLEEEAASSEE purchase a quality option.
This is THE FIRST place to spend money for aging gracefully and getting an adult, medical grade skincare routine 👏🏼
It’s one of the only steps that can’t be replicated with less expensive products.
At least, it’s really hard to verify that the ingredients truly are what they advertise. Plus, medical grade vitamin Cs are heavily researched.
I stick mainly to Obagi or SkinCeuticals serums. There are some others with derivatives listed above!
I hope this helps recap info I’ve been giving over the past year!
Much love,
♥️ Sydney

Talking sun hats today in stories and also made a highlight!
Here’s the scoop:
☀️Look for UPF 30-50 just like with swimsuits and clothes
(like the @freeflyapparel shirt Jack and I are wearing... great to throw over your swimsuit!)
☀️ do the hold up to the sun test to see if light shines through hopefully none does!
☀️@Tilley and @ericjavits are my favorite brands
I also love @petergrimmhats which have UPF but aren’t all complete physical blockers (meaning some light sneaks through when held up to sunlight).
(@ericjavits is $$$, but I got mine last a year when they had 50% off Labor Day Sale!)
☀️ have safe fun in the sun by making a few, easy tweaks:
- spf 30 before + every 2 hours
- shade available
- hat or hood with UPF (see Jack)
- sunglasses and 😎

Retinoids: one of the most important skincare steps that is also REALLY important to apply the correct way!
I disliked my first tretinoin prescription in college because it was prescribed without any directions about moisturizing. I broke out really really badly, had dry skin, everything was worse when I went to the dermatologist to get better.
I think life is all about expectations, and while these are side effects can happen and are not dangerous they can also be minimized greatly and avoided altogether with these steps♥️

Don’t forget to clean your makeup brushes!
Swipe to the end for the lazy way!!
Try to deep clean weekly, but I get it and often only do it every other week.
If you’re breaking out the really commit to this ♥️
P.S. if you clean all of the food off of your dishes before putting in dishwasher then you can throw makeup brushes in there too!

I’ve found most people think they may need to repeat Accutane because they weren’t transitioned to a comprehensive skincare routine after completing treatment.
IMO: Everyone should transition to a topical retinoid unless planning pregnancy.
I see people stay off Accutane when the correct ingredients are combined in the correct order.
This was WITHOUT prescriptions too!
This is a common scenario I’ve seen as a Derm PA and one of the reasons I started Skincare By Sydney and believe in skincare so much.
Accutane has a place (and I love it), but again SKINCARE FOR LIFE is how we maintain results in the long term after treating with the appropriate prescriptions.
“I want to say thank you so much, you are the first person I have worked with that has made a routine perfect for my skin and actually gotten my skin cleared up!! All I have left is scarring now, I haven’t had any active pimples in a few weeks. I am so much more confident thanks to you :). I really can’t thank you enough!” - Anna

October 2020- December 2020
We added glycolic acid, azelaic acid, niacinamide, (oral antibiotic becuase lives in AL) and the appropriate cleanser and moisturizer to hug the skin.
Common story of many past prescription and in-office chemical peel treatments.
When prescriptions AND skincare are tied together 🎀 in the correct order = long term success!
From here, we added at home weekly treatments in the form of exfoliation and peel pads. Recommended 2-3 microneedling as well! Plus skincare alone makes it all appear better and better with time!
“I have always felt like I have struggled with acne. My face was doing okay at the beginning of last year and then all the sudden I started experiencing hormonal acne like never before. I was very insecure about my face and asked my mom what we should do. She told me to give Sydney Givens a try before going on accutane again. I wanted to see if I was able to control my acne without having to be a strong medication again. Sydney Givens truly is my hero and I’m forever grateful for her and her passion in skin care! She is the absolute best!!!” - @greermccallum

Sunscreen Lingo
SPF 30 is recommended DAILY all day every day!
If not for preventing skin cancer then do it to prevent aging. UV rays are the #1 culprit of collagen breakdown and skin discoloration in ALL ages.
Physical v Chemical is trivial, but important to know the difference if you’re researching what you’re buying!

I create skincare regimens at all price points, which means I continuously try products at all price points. These are some I’ve tried and recommend for different budget options!
Stick to medical grade as much as possible. They will go further thus last longer and give better results!
(don’t buy medical grade brands from Amazon or Overstock, especially if a ridiculously low price).
The medical grade products are linked on sydneygivens.com and the drugstore products should be available at your nearest drugstore or linked to Amazon on my website!

Did you know? There are not that many ingredients in skincare.
The marketing and different mixtures = the expansive skincare market.
When I create a #customskincare routine, I’m grouping ingredients in the right concentration and vehicle (serum v moisturizer) for YOU, your skin and goals.
I don’t get excited about a product until I turn it around and check out the active ingredients👏🏼

This is 6 months of a personalized, comprehensive skincare routine! No in office treatments were possible due to Covid.
This is the result of adding antioxidants + exfoliation + adequate hydration/moisturization= HEALTHY SKIN.
….and healthy skin glows🌟
To me success is when a patient feels 100% confident in their skin with a tinted SPF only💖
The second picture shows the melasma that we will continue to work on to prevent and improve. Key changes were adding a sunscreen with IR (infrared radiation/heat) protection because hot yoga and hair drying are melasma instigators too!

This is also advice for breakout prone skin, in general, but I’ve gotten this question a lot lately and have been experiencing it too!
I truly believe #toningpads are the most efficient skincare product. The ingredients and texture prevent and treat breakouts and hyperpigmentation.
They are a must for teenagers... and everyone IMO!
