Top Vitamin C Serums! Happy Vitamin C Day!

Hey, so I'm here with Jack and we're going to go over some vitamin C serums. I have SkinCeuticals here and Obagi. These are considered the gold standard. they're medical grade, meaning there's research based off the before and afters. And then I have La Roche-Posay that also has salycilic acid in it. And then finally this is a Maelove Glow maker that I was trying because it has vitamin E in it and also ferulic acid, which is what is SkinCeuticals C Ferulic has, which some people will say is like THE gold standard of vitamin C.

These are pretty much my top ones right here. I don't really love the Maelove Glow Maker, but I'm just going to include it. So basically when we're looking at a vitamin C, it needs to have in the first three ingredients, L-ascorbic acid. So you don't want a derivative of vitamin C. And that's what all of these have. The other thing to know is that vitamin C comes in 10, 15 and 20%. Typically if you have sensitive skin, you need to start with a 10%. If you're breaking out at all or have oily skin, then start with a 15%. If you're super oily, you can go ahead and start with a 20, but if you're breaking out, you need a 15 or 20%. This is something you're going to use every single morning after you wash your face. It's best if you use a toner to get the best effects of the vitamin C because it's going to help it absorb into the skin a little bit better. And then you put five to seven drops of the vitamin C on your palm and then rub/pat it into your face.

So my favorite of all is the Obagi Professional-C line. I started with the 15%, and this is a 20%. I tried the SkinCeuticals C Ferulic that's usually better for dry or sensitive skin. I've also tried their Phloretin CF. Those are kind of their two that are going to be a little bit more expensive. This is the AOX serum 20, so this is going to be more along the lines of this. It has just the L-ascorbic acid, no vitamin E, but it does have Ferulic acid.

I'm going to show you the texture of them.

The big thing with this, you can kind of see the texture, is the smell. I don't really love the smell of the SkinCeuticals. I got this one {Skinceuticals AOX} because it wasn't the CE Ferulic and it wasn't the Phloretin CF because I wanted to see how it smelled and it still does not smell as good as the Obagi. It's also more expensive, which is why I always go pretty much with Obagi. As far as the way they look in their consistency, you're going to see that they're about the same. The biggest difference is the smell and the price. So you rub it on your face, you can see that, well, you can't see it. I mean I always rub the extra on the back of my hands.

So this La Roche-Posay is going to be a different price point and I'm going to link that all the prices to these, but it does have salicylic acid in it, so it's a 10%. I originally didn't try this because I do have oilier skin, but I am breakout prone. So I decided to get it because I do recommend it for certain skin types. And it has a very, very different texture so you can probably tell that it's a little bit thicker. And at first I really didn't like it and it's still not my favorite for my skin type. But when you're recommending products for several different skin types, you need to have the experience of what works. Once you put it on your skin, it actually does feel very similar.

So lastly, this is the Glow Maker by Maelove. And again it has vitamin E in it. That also helps with an antioxidant like vitamin C, it plays really well with vitamin C and it's going to moisturize. That's what vitamin E does. So the other thing it has in it is Ferulic acid, which is going to help our skin overall, and it stabilizes the vitamin C, the vitamin E, the antioxidants, and then it helps our skin absorb it better. It makes it a little bit not as tingly on the skin, in theory.

I don't have the SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic to show you, but you can just tell what the consistency, this one feels a lot more watered down. You can see how it's running down my hand versus staying in place. So I don't dislike this one. It's more around the $30 mark, so I don't know that I'd necessarily recommend it either.

Jack is demonstrating exactly how you need to do it.

So happy vitamin C day and incorporate vitamin C into your skincare routine in the morning. Several different reasons, overall it increases collagen which is going to help with fine lines and wrinkles. It makes your sunscreen work eight times better than if you were to use it alone so make sure you apply sunscreen after. And it also helps with dark spots on the skin that you have from sun damage over the years.
